Lidiia Prokhrenko, an 87-year-old Russian citizen who fled from the war in Ukraine to live with her daughter in Sweden, is now allowed to stay in the country. Last autumn, the Swedish Migration Agency decided to deport her to Russia, a country where she has no relatives or home. However, the decision has now been revoked due to her connection to the Ukrainian army. Lidiia’s daughter and son-in-law have been taking care of her since she arrived in Sweden. Lidiia is relieved and grateful to be able to spend her remaining time with her family. She has been granted a 13-month residence permit based on her connection to the Ukrainian army and the precarious situation in Russia for people with such connections. The court also took into consideration Lidiia’s age and health issues. The news of the decision has brought relief to Lidiia’s family and she has become a local celebrity in her small town of Rättvik.
