E6 highway destroyed after landslide
Many questions need to be answered before the rebuilding process can begin following the landslide on E6, according to the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket). The police have reported ”some activity” at the barriers during the night. Bengt Olsson, spokesperson for Trafikverket, stated that they need to ensure that the ground is stable and determine if construction can begin. Trafikverket has been working on redirecting traffic to alternative routes since the landslide. They are also investigating the capacity of these detours to handle heavy traffic. Olsson mentioned the need for a project management team to be in place before determining what needs to be done, how it should be done, and when it can be done. A meeting is scheduled in the coming days to establish a forecast. Meanwhile, the police continue to secure the area from curious onlookers. There has been ”some activity” overnight, with mostly teenagers being questioned, but no one has been reported for any crimes. The police are conducting an investigation into the cause of the landslide, including speaking to personnel at a nearby construction site where blasting had taken place. This investigation is expected to take some time, as the police will require expert opinions to determine the cause.
