Arjeplog Municipality Faces Challenges During National Preparedness Week
Arjeplog Municipality, with only 2,644 residents, is facing difficulties in attracting enough people to attend the ongoing national preparedness week in Sweden. In order to be prepared for potential crises and the need to accommodate many people from other municipalities, Arjeplog has reached out to all organizations and utilized all available platforms to encourage participation.
”We have appealed to everyone and used every forum we can with the message ’Help us – come and eat’,” says Martin Stråmo, a representative from the municipality.
During the preparedness week, Arjeplog residents are being served soup, bread, coffee, and other beverages. The food is prepared without access to electricity and with limited water resources.
The objective of the event is also to raise awareness among Arjeplog residents about crisis preparedness and individual responsibilities. The hope is that many individuals will remember to bring a container or bowl for their meal.
”Crisis preparedness concerns all of us. Here in Arjeplog, we have conducted exercises in the past, but we have never served so much food to so many people,” explains Martin Stråmo.
