Dorothy Hoffner, 104, broke Rut Larsson’s record but the jump must be certified by the Guinness World Records.
104-year-old Dorothy Hoffner from the USA could be named the world’s oldest skydiver. However, she has passed away in her sleep.
Therefore, it is unclear if Swedish Rut Larsson will remain on the throne.
Dorothy Hoffner was found dead in her bed at a nursing home on Monday.
”She was indefatigable. She just kept going,” said close friend and nurse Joe Conant to AP news agency.
At the beginning of October, Hoffner completed a tandem skydive that would have made her the oldest skydiver in the world.
”Age is just a number,” she said to a jubilant crowd in Ottawa, Illinois.
However, the jump from 4,000 meters has not yet been certified by the Guinness World Records, but Joe Conant is working to have it approved posthumously.
Thus, Swedish Rut Larsson’s record is threatened. At the age of 103, she completed a tandem skydive at the end of May 2022.
A happy Larsson landed in a field outside Motala and celebrated with cake.
Today, she is 105 years old and told Svenska Dagbladet that if her record is broken, she is ready to jump again.
”Now I haven’t had time to think that far ahead. But if I don’t have any illnesses and there’s nothing wrong with me, of course, I can try again,” she said.
Perhaps even this year, if it happens with the same person as last time. According to the 105-year-old, it wouldn’t be scary at all.
