Judith Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter Natalie, who were held hostage by Hamas for 13 days, have been released and brought back to Israel. The reason for their release was due to Judith’s poor health. The US and European governments are pressuring Israel to delay a ground invasion of Gaza in order to allow for continued negotiations for the release of more hostages. According to the Israeli military, there are still approximately 200 people being held hostage in Gaza. In a separate incident, Hamas has also released two American citizens who were being held hostage, citing mediation from Qatar as the reason for their release. The Israeli government has confirmed that the two released Americans are Judith and Natalie Raanan from Chicago. According to Hamas, they were released for ”humanitarian reasons” due to the mother’s ill health.
