Sporting appeared to be on the verge of a significant away victory in the derby thanks to the Swedish national team striker’s 1-0 goal. However, a red card and late goals would prove to be decisive for the green and white team.
Early in the second half, Goncalo Inacio received a red card. Despite being reduced to ten men, Sporting managed to hold on until the 94th minute when the equalizer came. Three minutes later, Benfica scored the decisive 2-1 goal.
