Sundling went in behind Emma Ribom, barely made it through the prologue as the 27th, but Kristine Stavås Skistad passed her from behind on the home stretch and finished second after Ribom.
Sundling was third and had to rely on qualifying as one of the two times.
After the second quarterfinal heat, it was already clear that Sundling’s time would not be enough.
”Shot myself in the foot”
”It was disappointing to be knocked out, I shot myself in the foot,” Sundling said about the deliberate tactic to stay behind.
It was a major setback for Sundling, who was fourth overall in the Tour de Ski, which reached Davos, Switzerland, for the fourth of seven stages today.
”I don’t lose strength but I don’t push hard enough on the parts where I should. Then Kristine passes me and for me today, it’s not enough and I think that’s really sad.”
