Trump vinner nomineringen i Iowa | SVT Nyheter

Donald Trump, the former president, wins the Republican caucuses in Iowa and receives the most votes from the Republican participants. An important victory at the start of the Republican primary. Not all the state’s votes have been counted, and opponents Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley are still fighting for second place.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump describes that he is ”honored” by the early results:

– I feel great. I am very honored by such a quick outcome.

Despite Iowa’s small number of delegates, the winner usually gains momentum in the polls and finds it easier to raise donations for the continued campaign. But this year is very different. Trump is leading by a large margin and current President Joe Biden seems to lack challengers.

In the Trump camp, they expect to have secured the nomination process as early as March, even though not all states have had their primaries by then.

The Supreme Court could decide

The legal proceedings against Trump seem to have no impact on his popularity, while the Supreme Court is currently preparing to decide whether he should even be allowed to run as a presidential candidate because of his involvement in the storming of the Capitol in 2021.

– They have promised to make a decision on whether Trump should be removed from the ballots or not before the so-called ”Super Tuesday” in March, when several states vote on the same day. We do not know what the court’s decision will be, but most observers seem to expect that Trump will remain on the ballots, says SVT’s US correspondent Fouad Youcefi.
