Rock band Smash into pieces caused a stir last year when they made it directly to the final with the song ”Six feet under.”
This year, they were the favorites with the Linkin Park-inspired ”Heroes are calling.” As expected, the song was a hit with the audience and the group was sent directly to the final.
Lisa Ajax’s fourth final spot
25-year-old Lisa Ajax, who has a solid track record in Melodifestivalen, made it through with the ballad ”Awful liar.” This final spot will be her fourth in the competition.
”I’m a bit in shock,” she said after her second performance.
Ajax is competing while pregnant and will be in her eighth month if she makes it all the way to the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
”Absolutely, I will be very pregnant, but you can handle that,” she previously told TT.
Elisa Lindström and Adam Woods also made it through to the final qualifier. The competition ended for pop duo Samir and Viktor and debutant Melina Borglowe.
Björn Gustafsson made a comeback
The most unexpected element of the evening was comedian Björn Gustafsson making a comeback as the admirer of host Carina Berg. Gustafsson rose to fame on the show in 2008, where he sang a love song to Carina Berg.
A clip during the broadcast hinted that Gustafsson is likely to appear in the show throughout the tour.
The group A-Teens also reunited during the evening, 20 years after their breakup.
