Tom Persson had to struggle to the finish line with parts of the poles hanging in the slow semifinal won by George Ersson, just a second faster than the winning time in the women’s class where Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling battled it out.
– I came first and then both poles hit. It’s comical. I’m a bit sick and injured everywhere and then this comes as a bonus. It’s completely crazy, Persson tells SVT Sport.
”Not at the level I want to be”
It has been an uphill battle for Persson for a long time.
– I have had foot surgery. I have no strength and I’m not back at the level I should be at, says Persson bitterly.
Edvin Anger had the sprint under control after winning the prologue, quarterfinal, and semifinal.
– It was a track that worked really well on the home stretch and it was an advantage to be first in. I knew I had a great chance of winning, says Edvin Anger, who was unchallenged and won ahead of Johan Häggström and George Ersson.
